Getting policymakers to prioritize [inequality focused] policies will depend on the actions of advocates, voters and other supporters with a vision for a fair and inclusive society so strong that they overwhelm powerful forces that seek to maintain the status quo.
- John Powell, Haas Institute at UC Berkeley
What is the High Basic Income Project?

Our goal is to reduce inequality by providing 30 randomly selected individuals with $60K/year for 10 years and the necessary resources and support to pursue their personal and professional goals.

Why do it this way?

We want to build a permanent, long term solution to solve inequality.

Economic mobility requires enough financial stability to focus on specialized work, as well as access to opportunities to grow. We provide financial stability through basic income, and opportunities through a network of highly engaged supporters.

How will you make the program financially self-sustaining?

The program will seek initial funding from donors, and then aim to become self-sustaining as successful participants generate revenue, contributing back to the program.

How will you select the first 30 participants?

Participants will be randomly selected through a nationwide application process, aiming for a diverse and representative sample of individuals from different backgrounds.

How do you plan to engage the community and allies?

We will engage the community and allies by building partnerships with organizations, professionals, and experts who can provide resources, mentorship, and support to participants.

What is your plan to scale up the program?

To address scalability concerns, we'll start small, gradually expanding the cohort size, and work on improving support systems and mentorship as the program grows.

How will you contribute to reducing inequality in the long term?

The project will contribute to reducing inequality by empowering participants to pursue their goals, which can lead to meaningful social change, economic mobility, and increased political participation.

How do you plan to work with policymakers and other stakeholders?

We will collaborate with policymakers and stakeholders by sharing our program's successes, advocating for policies that promote equity, and actively participating in discussions about reducing inequality.

Are there any restrictions on how participants can use the $60K/year?

There are no specific limitations or restrictions on how participants can use the $60K/year, as the aim is to empower them to pursue their goals and passions.
